Balboa Yacht Club hosted the Balboa Advanced Racing Clinic this past weekend where 50 youth sailors from all over southern California came to hone their skills.
Local, well-known coaches ran drills Saturday and Sunday morning with sunny skies and consistent breezes. Sunday afternoon all of the participants were challenged to use their skills in a regatta that took place in front of Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
It was a busy weekend with a lot of commercial traffic but the charter boat captains “were super cooperative and worked around us, which was a huge help in running successful races,” Balboa Yacht Club Junior Director Katie Tinder said.
After a weekend of intense drills and racing, all of the sailors will be prepared for Junior Sabot Nationals this Aug. 8-11, hosted by the Newport Harbor area yacht clubs.
