A woman had to be cut out of her minivan after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of San Joaquin Hills and Spyglass Hill roads on Tuesday afternoon, officials reported.
Newport Beach Police Department received a call at 1:59 p.m. reporting the accident, NBPD spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella explained.
A Honda minivan was traveling westbound on San Joaquin Hills Road when a Land Rover headed up the hill in the opposite direction moved into the left turn lane to head onto Spyglass Hill Road. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Both vehicles had a single female occupant (the driver) and both women suffered minor injuries.
“The driver of the van was trapped inside her vehicle and was cut out by Newport Beach Fire Department personnel,” Manzella noted.
Responders reported that she appeared to have a broken foot and multiple lacerations. She was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for medical attention.
The other driver’s injuries were less severe and went to Hoag Hospital as a precautionary measure.
All westbound lanes on San Joaquin Hills Road and the eastbound left turn lane onto Spyglass Hills Road were temporarily closed for at least half an hour. Officers hand-directed traffic and diverted vehicles around the scene while the investigation was completed. There was minimal impact on traffic in the area, Manzella reported.
