UCI Fifth in Florida

The UC Irvine Sailing Team traveled to Florida for the Frank Mendleblatt Team Race hosted by USF and Eckerd. The Anteaters won the first round of racing on Saturday with a record of 13-2, just edging out UC Santa Barbara. They reported for the Gold Round on Sunday along with College of Charleston, MIT, UC Santa Barbara, USF, and Salve Regina. Two round robins were completed and UCI finished 5th overall. UCI’s team consisted of a few local sailors as well: Rex Cameron/Blair Johnston, Jack Porter/Ashley Hobson, Colin Kincaid/Martha Davis/Will Larsen.

Local sailors Brooks Clark and Alexis Scott both sailed for second-place College of Charleston while Karafaye Buffa sailed for third-place Salve Regina.

Meanwhile, other local sailors were competing in the four-division Truxtun Umstead Regatta hosted by the Naval Academy. College of Charleston took it top-three finishes in all four divisions. Mac Mace and Perry Emsiek competed for the Cougars, placing second in B Division. Georgetown placed second overall, also with a few familiar faces. Charlie Buckingham placed second in A Division with Chris Barnard winning C Division in Lasers. Yale took fifth with Heather May and Blair Belling both crewing in A Divison and Chris Segerblom placing third in B Division. Michael Menninger sailed for 6th place St. Mary’s. And, Nick Russo-Larsson competed for Tufts University.

This same weekend the St. Mary’s Women’s Intersectional took place, with Kayla McComb sailing for St. Mary’s and Sally Mace for Stanford. Their teams placed 7th and 14th respectively.
