Whether your summer plans involve a getaway to Greece or staying local and soaking up the infamous/succulent California rays, your summer wardrobe is an essential component of your plans.

With a sea of shopping malls and trendy chains, where should you look to find your staple necessities? This summer, stay tuned to hear my trend reports, styling tips and tricks, and of course new happenings in the world of fashion.

One of my favorite places to spend the day is at Fashion Island. Not only do they have a mélange of boutique and chain stores, the outdoor shopping haven also houses chic restaurants, a picturesque cinema and the occasional Style pop-up event featuring select designers and vendors.

The latest Style pop-up took place Saturday, May 30 and included three pop-up closets comprised of this summer’s hottest swimwear and resort looks from Rebecca Taylor, Seafolly and Trina Turk.

In addition, each of the participating designers offered special promotions and a fun in-store activity, including DJs, card readings and treats from Gelato Paradiso.

Don’t miss the next Style pop-up event, which takes place on June 20 at Fashion Island.

“The pop-up Saturday Style events are a great way to bring these key trends straight from our retailers into highly trafficked areas of the shopping center to perhaps a larger, broader audience and customer-base,” said Easther Liu, chief marketing officer for Irvine Company Retail Properties. “It’s part of our ongoing efforts to create fun and engaging shopping experiences for our guests here at Fashion Island.”

Now that you know where to shop, it’s time to decide what to shop for. Summer is finally here and its time to translate red carpet and runway trends to your everyday ensembles. In each column this summer, I will release a few of my favorite summer trends that are sure to keep you style savvy!

Coveting Crochet

Coachella might be over, but Crochet is here to stay! Nothing beats the heat quite like a crisp white crochet top or a summer-inspired crochet dress. Before taking over the worldtrina 2 of music festivals, crochet was on the runway for big name designers such as Roberto Cavalli and Tory Burch.

The crochet trend helps fashionistas take on the hipster trend, while still looking classic and polished. Whether you’re sporting a pair of shorts, a crop top, or even swimwear, a touch of crochet will add a unique twist to your summer wardrobe.

The Blues

Stow away your everyday skinny jeans; this summer it’s all about reinterpreting the old classic in an original way. Denim made waves in the 60s inspired by the age of Rock n’ Roll. Although times have changed denim is here to stay. Now more than ever we are embracing new denim trends that will take you from the beach to the street looking as chic as ever.

It’s time to get experimental and mix washes, colors, and get adventurous with styles. Blend a white pair of denim jeans with a blue-wash collared denim shirt, try the denim on denim look, or get funky with denim overalls and temporarily substitute the little black dress with the little denim dress! The “denim daze” is a great way to kick start your summer.

Statement shades: So you have your wide-brimmed Eric Javits hat to protect you from harmful rays and a stylish cover-up to enhance your swimwear, but your summer look is not complete without the perfect pair of shades… or a few! Unlike the dramatic antics of celebrities, your statement shades should do the opposite of keeping you incognito this summer. Sunglasses are a necessity no matter what season but even more crucial in this weather. Whether you’re rocking a dramatic pair of cateyes for drinks at sunset or relaxing at the beach in a classic Rayban aviator, statement shades help complete your outfit.
