Flamingo and Florals. Hip and Hula. Candy and Crystals. These are names of some of the fun summer paint camps still available for girls ages 6-12 at Timree Art Studio.
Timree Gold, artist and owner of Timree studio/boutique on old Newport Boulevard, designs, paints and personalizes custom gifts and accessories. She also offers fun, interactive art classes for young and old alike, with an approach that leaves every participant feeling like an artist.
“I call it the ‘Timree Technique’ of painting,” Gold said. “I’ve developed my own stylized system to teach others, and in an hour and a half, everybody leaves with a painting that looks like mine. I have a staff now, and I just had a baby, but all the girls teach my techniques. If you aren’t in love with what you create in the class, we’ll help fix it so you do.”
Gold grew up in Orange County in a family filled with artists. In 2001, she had her first big break at Orange County’s Junior League Christmas Company, where she sold over 300 painted dishes in four days. She was soon in high demand for personalized gifts and custom murals.
Gold has painted for celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Usher, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg and Rod Stewart. She has been featured at the American Music Awards, the Emmy’s and at the Venice Film Festival in Italy.
Gold said she loves capturing people’s memoires with her own paintbrush, but she is also excited about helping others express their creativity too, and she’s developed many different classes to accommodate the demand.
“I’ve only been teaching for about two and a half years, but word has spread,” Gold said. “It’s really been word of mouth, but obviously it helps that we were featured on ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County.’ We were also rated as one of the Top 10 Paint Classes to take in the United States by Red Tricycle.”
Red Tricycle is a website dedicated to helping parents have fun with their children by recommending the best things to see, eat, make, and do in their neighborhood. Word about the classes has spread far and wide.
“We’ve had people from London, Australia and Saudi Arabia in class,” Gold said. “When people travel to Orange County, they’ll sign up for a class because they’ve read about us. The studio really has a magical feeling about it, and people notice it the minute they walk in. The energy is contagious. Kids love it, moms love it too. It’s a wonderful creative outlet and the moms often come back for classes themselves.”
Weekly sessions cost $185 for the children’s 3-day camp, which runs from 9:30-12:30 or 1:30-4:30. Students learn to design, paint and create with glitter, ribbon, jewels, paper and more. Price includes supplies, snacks and games, and children go home with a masterpiece after just a few hours.
“Summer camps are great, but we have great weekend and after school classes too,” Timree said. “We also offer Girl’s Night, Mother –Daughter classes, private parties, and Guys Night.”
The studio has a store with creative gifts and school supplies that can be customized. For further information, visit timree.com
