Firebrand Media LLC has named Christopher Schulz as its new group publisher for the magazine division, overseeing Newport Beach magazine and a portfolio of other magazines and digital products serving the lifestyle, tourism and travel sectors.

As Orange County’s fastest-growing media company, Firebrand Media publishes several local, regional and national publications, including Laguna Beach magazine and Bespoke, the official in-room magazine for the St. Regis Hotels and Resorts, as well as the Newport Beach Independent and Laguna Beach Independent newspapers. The company also recently launched the website OCinSite.com.

“We are completely thrilled to have Chris join our team,” says Steve Zepezauer, Firebrand’s CEO. “His unique experience, enthusiasm and reputation in Orange County is extremely valuable to us as we continue to grow our media offerings in the region. Everyone wins with his appointment to Firebrand, especially our consumers and advertising partners.”

Schulz previously served as chief operating officer and group publisher for Freedom Communications’ magazine division, where he published Coast, a luxury lifestyle magazine, and a portfolio of regional and custom magazines. Prior to joining Firebrand Media, he served as the president and group publisher of Gulfshore Media/CurtCo, southwest Florida’s largest consumer magazine publisher.

“This has been our year to bring on the likes of Tom Johnson (newspaper group publisher) and Chris Schulz as we solidify and justify our growth plan out into the future,” says Allan Simon, chairman of Firebrand Media. “Both men are accomplished and recognized for their groundbreaking performances in previous leadership roles. Each will be a group publisher and member of our internal board of directors.”

A resident of Orange County for 15 years, Schulz says he is excited to bring his expertise to Firebrand Media.

“I am happy to join this talented team to serve our markets with an unparalleled portfolio of print and digital publications. Watch us closely for some exciting new developments,” Schulz says.
