  1. Final four teams compete for the winning spot in 2011 Gov Cup

The Second Youth Clinic & Regatta was held at Balboa Yacht Club from May 13 through the 15th. Crews of three or four, all members of US Sailing, competed in a round robin series on Saturday and Sunday, culminating in the best two out of three among the top four, then the top two to determine the winner. The winning skipper with his team will be invited to the prestigious 2011 Governor’s Cup, to be held at BYC from July 19-24.
For the clinic part of the event, Andrew Campbell provided both on the water and off the water coaching. Local coach Mike Pinckney also was available during the two race days to support the teams.
The final four included local teams from Newport Harbor Yacht Club and the team from Balboa Yacht Club. Ryan Davidson led the BYC team of Gregg Kent and Megan Kenney. From Newport Harbor Yacht Club came a new team that includes brothers Michael and Jimmy Madigan as well as Dom Re. The San Diego Yacht Club also won five of the first seven match races. Their team of Nevin Snow, Jake LaDow and Jake Reynolds have raced in the last two Governor’s Cup events.
The fourth team to win five races came from the Chicago Yacht Club to challenge the local talent. The other four teams will compete in a consolation round on Sunday. The racing will culminate in an awards ceremony on the flag deck at BYC as soon after racing as possible.
