A San Francisco man died over the weekend after being struck by a car in Newport Beach, authorities reported.
Mohamad Ahmed Abdelwahhab, 36, was crossing MacArthur Boulevard outside of the crosswalk, just north of the intersection with Von Karman Avenue, shortly before midnight Saturday when he was struck by a northbound silver Toyota Yaris.
The Newport Beach Police Department received a 911 call around 11:45 p.m. reporting the collision.
“The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” according to the NBPD press release.
The female driver of the Toyota remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators, police reported. She did not require medical attention.
It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors, the statement explains.
It is an ongoing investigation.
