The Newport Lightning Basketball Club Boys 5th Grade team won the Big City Sports “OC Slamboree” Championship in Anaheim. The Lightning easily beat OCBC and the OC Blazers on Saturday in pool play, and then went on to beat the Yorba Linda Pumas on Sunday for the championship.
The Lightning were led by the stellar play of Mitch Haly, Will Rodosky, Chase Garbers and Connor Kincaid who led the team in scoring. Luke Vafiadis, Billy Shaw and Will Gehl played string interior defense and out-rebounded every team in the tournament while Sachin Gokhale, Cole O’Neil and Jack McClintock hit key shots throughout the tournament.
