Newport Beach Police Officers Arrest Robbery Suspect

According to a press release from the Newport Beach Police Department, on Tuesday, January 20, at approximately 3:02 p.m., the Newport Beach Police Department’s Communications Center received a call about an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Bank of America at 4101 MacArthur Boulevard.

Personnel at the bank reported that a male suspect had entered the bank and approached a teller window, where he displayed what appeared to be a firearm and verbally demanded cash. After receiving the cash, the suspect left the location and fled in an unknown direction.

Newport Beach Police Department Officers, supported by Duke (the Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter), began a search for the suspect.

After a short pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody in Fountain Valley, near the intersection of Euclid and Talbert. The suspect was identified as Vu Hoan Le, 39, of Garden Grove.

Further investigation revealed that the weapon Mr. Le displayed at the crime scene was an airsoft gun.

Detectives are also investigating Mr. Le’s involvement in other possibly-related bank robberies in the area.
