On Sunday, January 25, 2015 at approximately 11:02 am, the Newport Beach Fire Department was notified of a building fire in the 2800 block of Newport Boulevard. A total of twelve units responded to the call.

The first Fire Department personnel on scene reported black smoke coming from the second story of the building (a two-story multi-family residential structure). After directing an aggressive offensive attack through the front door of the unit, firefighters were able to prevent the spread flames beyond the laundry room and hallway areas of that unit. The fire was extinguished within five minutes after arrival without any damage to surrounding units.

There were no injuries sustained during the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the loss, which includes smoke damage to the rest of the building, is estimated at approximately $40,000.
