The Newport Beach Public Library will join libraries across the country in celebration of National Library Week, April 12-18.

National Library Week is celebrated across the country each April to honor the contributions of our nation’s libraries, to promote library use and support, and encourage reading.

Special programs for youth and adults are scheduled at all four Newport Beach Public Library locations.

The week-long celebration kicks off on Sunday with a children’s program featuring world-class long-distance swimmer Lynne Cox at 2 p.m. in the Children’s Room at the Central Library and a Sunday Musicale at 3 p.m. in the Friends Room featuring The Upside, a classical jazz ensemble.

Adult programs include an It’s Your Estate workshop on Monday, Tuesdays@2: Proquest computer training on Tuesday, and the Witte Lecture Series with Governor Jennifer Granholm presented by the NBPL Foundation on April 17-18.

Children’s programs during the week include Magic with Eli at the Corona del Mar Branch Library at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, “Jack in the Beanstock” puppet show at the Balboa Branch Library at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, and an entertaining program with Annie Banannie, a balloon storyteller, at Crean Mariners Branch Library on April 18 at 2 p.m.
