A Newport Beach Police Department officer was injured over the weekend in a single vehicle collision with a tree, authorities reported.
Police received a call around 2:14 p.m. Sunday about an accident on Jamboree Road, near the San Joaquin Hills Road intersection, according to NBPD spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.
No other vehicles or people were involved, Manzella said.
The officer was injured in the collision and transported to a trauma center. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was released from the hospital on Tuesday, Manzella said.
“Thank you for all of the well-wishes and kind messages in the wake of this accident,” NBPD wrote on the department’s facebook page. “The officer involved in this collision is recovering well and should be heading home (Tuesday). As always, the officer – and the rest of the NBPD – are blessed by the outpouring of support from our community.”
His name is not being released.
Police sent out a Nixle message around 5:30 p.m. Sunday alerting residents that Jamboree Road was closed in both directions between San Joaquin Hills Road and Eastbluff Drive due to a major traffic collision. The lanes were shut down for at least three hours.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
