On Sunday, Crystal Cove State Park hosted the Pacific Coast Triathlon, which turned out to be yet another win for Chris “Macca” McCormack, who took first overall with a time of 0:59:33.
McCormack is a dominant triathlete, the winner of multiple triathlons and events, including the Ironman Hawaii, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Olympic distance and Triathlon World Cup Championships. He is a 12-time Ironman Champion, has 24 national titles, and is a four-time Escape from Alcatraz Champion.
The women’s overall winner was Julie Ertel from Irvine.
Other female Newport Beach standouts included: Kelsey Christensen, who finished second in the 19 and under group, Andrea Wahleithner; third in the 25-29 age group; Jennifer Angell, second in the 30-34 age group. Nancy O’Brien, who was featured in last week’s Indy, finished in 10th place in the 50-54 age group.
Male standouts from Newport Beach included Patrick McKeon who finished 3rd in the 20-24 age group and Bill Kircher, who at the young age of 64, finished in 3rd place for the 60-64 age group. The next big race will be the 3rd annual Orange County International Triathlon that will be held on October 10 down by Lake Mission Viejo.
