The Southern Pacific (Orange County) Red team won the USA Water Polo 2012 ODP Regional Championships – 12th grade and under division – with a 14-9 victory over the Coastal (Los Angeles) Red team in Clovis.
The annual tournament features elite teams from each Olympic Development Program zone, including Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego, Central Valley, Northern California and Hawaii.
The Southern Pacific Red roster consisted of the best Division One-bound seniors and the top juniors and sophomores in Orange County, including Reid Chase and Ben Zepfel from Corona del Mar High, Farrell South and Dan Stevens from Newport Harbor High, and Newport Beach residents Jon and James Walters of Mater Dei.
This marked the fourth consecutive time the Southern Pacific zone has won the tournament.
Seventy players from the tournament were tapped for the National Selection Camp, to be held over Memorial Day weekend.
