Irrelevant Week, which during its 35 year existence has raised more than $1 million for Orange County charities, this year generated in excess of $30,000 for Goodwill of Orange County’s Fitness Center, which will be used by people with physical disabilities or chronic illnesses. Additional contributions continue to be received.
2010 Mr. Irrelevant Tim Toone, a wide receiver/kick returner from Weber State, proved to be a worthy recipient of the Lowsman Trophy during the recently concluded Irrelevant Week. Toone, the 255th and last pick of the 2010 National Football League draft by the Detroit Lions, was accompanied by family members who enthusiastically participated in his arrival party, the Lowsman Trophy dinner, a Disneyland visit, an Angels game, a visit to the Goodyear blimp site in Tustin, yacht races in Newport Bay and a stint on the ESPN network.
Irrelevant founder Paul Salata commented, “The community had a lot of fun with Tim, and he and his family had a great time here. As a result of strong community participation, we were able to help the Goodwill Fitness Center purchase some specialized exercise equipment for their physically challenged members. All in all, it was a very successful Irrelevant Week.”
Irrelevant Week officials are currently in discussions with NFL personnel regarding a partnership to strengthen and grow Irrelevant Week in the years ahead.
