If you were visiting France (and had the overwhelming desire to surrender…) and a Frenchman started bashing the United States of America and the President of the United States, how would you respond?

Depends on how big the Frenchman was right?

But you’d probably defend America and her President, even if that President is Barack Obama, right?

I would.  And I would because I’m an American who is proud to be an American.  Listening to the National Anthem and watching our Flag fly high brings me shivers every time.

But back to that later.

Because of my activism within the California Republican Party and the Republican Party of Orange County, I’ve had the opportunity to sit down with the last Republican Governor of California (who shall not be named, out of shame…) numerous times.

And unlike many Republicans, my picture with him was not bought and paid for with thousands of dollars; in fact it was taken in the back of an Asian Supermarket in Westminster, with dumpsters and a black Suburban in the background.  Makes sense, right?

So I’ve never been too much of a fan of paying to take a picture with a Politician, and obviously paying $38K to be photographed standing next to President Obama would constitute as being absolutely nutty, regardless of Politics.

Don’t these people have something better to do with their money?  Aren’t we still in a recession?  Are people still unemployed?

But some people paid that much, while others paid $2,500, to be in the same room as our 44th President of the United States.  And people protested outside, while, others supported.  Signs were held, words were chanted, and a horse was ridden.

As a good Republican, who is a Delegate of the California Republican Party and an activist for the Republican Party of Orange County, I should be outraged that such a liberal Democrat would dare show his face in the most Conservative village of the most Conservative City of the most Conservative County in the United States, right?

I should be outraged that President Obama’s liberal policies are sending our wonderful nation into a downward spiral of economic and social destruction that may take decades and decades to fix.

I should be outraged that President Obama and his gang of liberal bullies (politicians) are using California as an ATM – withdrawing our tax dollars, without barely a penny in return.

As a good Conservative Republican, I should have been there on the sidewalks of Corona del Mar, holding signs, screaming chants, and petting the pretty horse.

But I wasn’t.  I was working, earning a living to support my triplets and pay my taxes.

In fact, and I’m ashamed to say this, I was actually fascinated, if not excited, that the President of the United States was less than five miles from my home.

Not because I’m a Republican and not because I’m a Conservative (two different things sometimes), but because I’m an American.

I was fascinated and excited because Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States.  His name is now permanently engraved side by side (like it or not) with President George Washington, President Abraham Lincoln, and President Ronald Reagan.

President Barack Obama is now and forever an important piece of American History.  And as a student of American History (my favorite subject in College), the President of the United States is as important to me as the Flag, the National Anthem, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address, our War Veterans, and apple pie…regardless of political party, regardless of political and personal beliefs.

And he was here in my City, just five miles away from me.  A piece of American History … who hopefully will become history soon, but still…

So how would you respond to the Frenchman?

  1. I’d remind that Frenchman that, had it not been for the United States of America (twice!), he would have grown up in a France where German was the official language. I’d remind him that, if not for our intervention in WWII, his beloved Eiffel Tower might have been melted down for Mercedes and BMW parts.

That being said, I was not “thrilled” that BHO chose to visit CdM because he was just on a farming visit, to harvest dollars from those in the community wealthy enough to throw that kind of spare cash at him. Sadly, those well-heeled folks are apparently NOT AWARE that THEY are the group Obama has specifically targeted to carry an even greater burden in the form of onerous taxes. Of course, they could be hoping for a “CdM exemption” from those taxes…

Nope, Obama’s visit reminds me of some recent sci-fi movies, where alien space craft swoop down on Earth, suck up resources – water, people – then leave to snatch resources from some other unsuspecting planet.
