Newport-Mesa district Trustee Martha Fluor started her term as president of the statewide association for school boards on Saturday.
The official announcement Fluor was selected as president of the California School Boards Association came during the association’s annual conference, on Dec. 2. Fluor’s term began at the conclusion of the conference.
“This is a great honor for Newport-Mesa and we are thrilled for Mrs. Fluor,” superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard wrote in a district statement.
Fluor has served on the Newport-Mesa board since 1991 and also is on the board of trustees of the Coastline Regional Occupation Program
She is also involved with many local organizations and nonprofit organizations, including the Newport Beach Public Library and the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa, having served on the latter group’s board.
Fluor has been on the state association’s board and has been a member of its delegate assembly since 1992. She has also completed her CSBA master’s in boardsmanship and governance.
Fluor is a San Diego State University alumna and holds two credentials, in elementary and special education, along with her bachelor of science degree. She was a special education teacher for four years in the Orange Unified School District, as well as a bilingual instructional aide in Newport-Mesa.
