Field of Honor at Castaways Park May 20-22

Field of Honor 2015-23The Seventh Annual Field of Honor, presented by the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor, takes place Friday, May 20 through Sunday, May 22 at Castaways Park, 16th and Dover Dr., in Newport Beach.

One of the event highlights is the posting of 1776 large American flags, displayed along the paths of beautiful Castaways Park overlooking the Newport harbor, that honors armed forces members, past and present, who have served or are serving our country.

On Friday, May 20, at 10 a.m., more than 700 local school children will participate in a special dedication program featuring Americanism and patriotic activities.

A flag may be dedicated in honor of an armed forces member, past or present, in any branch of service. For more information about how to dedicate a flag, go to nhexchange.net. At the end of the event, each dedicated flag may be claimed by the donor for private display.

All proceeds from the Field of Honor are distributed to organizations that support military members and families, asField of Honor 2015-15 well as local charities.

The Field of Honor coincides with Armed Forces Day, May 21, and will feature a new event: the Field of Honor Parade, led by the Wells Fargo Stagecoach followed by local dignitaries and military personnel.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday. It starts at Newport Harbor High School at 15th and Irvine Aves, proceeds to Westcliff Drive, then onto Dover Dr. to Castaways Park.

Following the parade, a Patriotic Dedication Ceremony will be held at noon at the Marine Memorial in the park.
