Parking lots were full, restaurants were packed, and it appeared to be business as usual at Fashion Island on Sunday, a day after a man with a semi-automatic handgun fired 50 shots into the air while standing in the Macy’s parking lot.

See related story from Saturday.

The suspect, Marcos Sarinana Gurrola, was taken into custody by Newport Beach Police shortly after firing the shots on Saturday, December 15, at 4:35 p.m. No injuries were reported. Panicked shoppers ran from the area, uncertain of where the shots had come from.

The suspect is being held by the Sheriff’s Department. Bail was set at $250,000.  Originally charged with assault with a deadly weapon, Gurrola has now been charged with shooting at an inhabited dwelling.

Gurrola was at one time a licensed security guard, according to state records. His firearm permit was cancelled in 2001, and his security guard license appears to have been cancelled in 2003.
