The city issued a warning to residents after receiving multiple reports of privatized fire inspections occurring through the city.
“All fire inspections conducted in the city of Newport Beach are conducted by Newport Beach Fire Department personnel who wear badges and carry department identification cards,” explained the NBFD notice, sent out on May 30.
The notice alleged the goal of the private inspections is to have employees sign off on work so that then local businesses may be invoiced. The fire department warned these private companies are not licensed nor qualified to perform such inspections.
Business owners and residents may contact the fire department at (949) 644-3106 to schedule an official inspection, verify the authenticity of an inspection, or to report a fraudulent inspection.
