The Newport Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. has awarded scholarships totaling $15,400 to 21 NMUSD graduating senior girls.
Each scholarship recipient submitted an application along with a personal essay. The scholarship committee considered academics, extra-curricular activities and financial need, but also weighed recommendations from teachers and counselors, volunteer hours, along with the students’ plans for their future.
This year’s recipients will be honored at their High School Senior Awards Presentations to be held in the next few weeks.
The 2011 NCL Scholarship honorees and their High School Award Nights are:
Back Bay/Monte Vista HS – May 11: Lauren Freshour, Brenda Valdez
Corona Del Mar HS – June 6: Tess Castro
Costa Mesa HS – June 2: Devan Davison, Darria Farris, Gabrielle Herbosa , Alexandra Krohnfeldt
Estancia HS – June 14: Adriana Flores, Stephanie Plascencia, Consuelo Tolentino , Johanna Torres
Newport Harbor HS – June 13: Celilia Blackney, Rachel Brunetti, Jasmin Camberos, Rebecca Flores, Elizabeth Gonzales, Daisy Guevara, Jocelyn Gutierrez, Madison Ludes, Alondra Ruiz, Andrea Zarate.
