The 2015 BNP Paribas Open began this weekend in Indian Wells. The event, voted the best tournament in 2014 by the players, features the world’s top ranked tennis players. Serena Williams, the enigmatic number one ranked woman, reappeared after a fourteen year hiatus. The men’s top seeds, Novac Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal advanced as did Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic on the lady’s side. Orange County tennis players and fans, and an especially large contingent of Palisades Tennis Club members, turned out for the first weekend. The tournament, attended by over 430,000 fans last year, is the largest event in the desert. The winners take home checks for $1 million.
