Residential burglary. 8:30 a.m. 800 block of Gardenia Way. An unknown suspect(s) managed to get into the victim’s garage by unknown means. A key was removed and used to operate a 2006 Toyota Rav4, which was parked in the driveway. A bike and two cameras were also stolen. The stolen property was valued at $2,725.
Theft of mail. 4:26 p.m. 500 and 300 blocks of Aliso Ave., and 2300 block of Cliff Dr. An unknown suspect(s) stole mail from unsecured mailboxes. All three victims were in close proximity to another and police believe the incidents are related. While it is difficult to determine if this is a growing trend, police will keep a close eye to identify if this is an isolated problem or not.
Sunday, Feb. 3
Arson. 1:06 a.m. 3000 block of 5th Ave. An unidentified suspect(s) removed a trash can from a men’s restroom and set it on fire. The trashcan was destroyed. It was valued at $35.
Saturday, Feb. 2
Impersonation. 1:25 a.m. Santa Ana Avenue and Mesa Drive. A Newport woman was halted during a traffic stop. She provided a false name and date of birth, resulting in her arrest. Her bail was scheduled for $20,000.
Residential burglary. 9:56 a.m. 2000 block of Galatea. A suspect(s) managed to gain entry to a house via unknown means and stole a pair of gold earrings, a diamond pendant necklace, and a gold wedding ring. The stolen jewelry was valued at $21,914.23.
Possession of burglary tools. 11:15 p.m. 22nd Street and Newport Boulevard. A Santa Ana mechanic was contacted during a routine traffic stop. He was found to be in possession of burglary tools. He subsequently arrested, and his bail was set at $500.
Friday, Feb. 1
Theft from vehicle. 9:59 a.m. 1100 block of Sandpiper Dr. A number of suspects entered an unlocked vehicle and stole golf clubs, sunglasses, cash, and gift cards all valued at $4,980.
