The gardens are preparing for a busy weekend with Mother’s Day on Sunday and the 18th Annual Amateur Rose Show on Saturday. Anybody can enter and anybody can win, said rosarian Laurie Chaffin, a judge for the competition. It’s also a beautiful event for spectators, as 100-200 roses will be on display. She encourages everybody to pick their prettiest rose from their garden and participate. “It’s a chance for amateurs to shine,” she said. “And it’s a lot of fun.” The show starts accepting entries at 9 a.m. Vases are provided. Awards will be presented at approximately 1 p.m.
