Spring Gold Cup, NHYC, March 19-20. Juniors, One-Design. NHYC’s “Gold Cup” regattas are among the most well attended junior events, typically bringing in over 100 young sabot sailors, and a similar number of competitors in the CFJ class. For an interesting variation on race tracking, NHYC is planning to give some of the juniors in the Sabot A and CFJ classes Kattack race tracking equipment for this event – this should be both fun and interesting for watching the tracks of top local junior sailors out on the race course. For more information about the Gold Cup go to www.NHYC.org.
Congressional Cup – March 21-26, Long Beach Yacht Club. This is one of the oldest professional match racing regattas in the world, and among the only professional sailing events still active on the West Coast. Unlike most sailing events, the Congressional Cup offers great opportunities for spectators to get up close to professional sailing and racing action. Races are run so close to the Belmont Pier in Long Beach that you can literally almost reach out and touch the boats during their races. In addition to bleachers for spectating, announcers give a play-by-play commentary to help everyone keep abreast of all the action. Go to www.LBYC.org for more information.
