Most people recognize Newport Beach resident Wing Lam as the face of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, a brand he helped start more than 20 years ago with his brothers.

However, another Lam has just launched a business that might soon rival the popularity of Wahoo’s, but in an industry where wellness tops tacos.

Wing’s wife Kelly Lam and her business partner, Joanne Forster, formed a business called Mindful Her several months ago after discovering they both had a passion for health and wellness.

According to Forster, they decided to create unique event experiences that educate, inspire and empower real women to take their mindful and healthy living experiences to the next level.

“Our events include a mix of teachings in yoga, meditation, nutrition, Ayurvedic lifestyle, mindful living, and many other topics,” said Forster. “They are designed for real women who struggle with work/life balance, being the healthiest they can be and raising healthy kids. We noticed that most of our girlfriends, family members and colleagues are stressed out, suffering from anxiety, and essentially maxing themselves out because they are trying to have it all.”

Mindful Her held its inaugural event last October with Mallika Chopra as keynote speaker, and many other notableMindful_her_High_Res-9931 wellness teachers speaking on topics such as Mindful Communication, Finding Your Life’s Purpose, The Benefits of Aromatherapy, Mindful New Mommy, Unleashing Your Inner Goddess, and more.

“We had such an overwhelming response from 300 women and corporate partners, that we now have five additional events planned for 2016,” said Forster.

The first event of 2016 is called “New Year, New You: The Beauty Within” on Jan. 9 at Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An impressive lineup of speakers will offer women information and demonstrations on the best practices for a healthy mind, body and spirit. Teachers and topics include:

  • Megan McCarver on “Daily Meditation & Yoga Breathing Exercises to Cultivate Harmony and Expand Creative Energy.”
  • Tawny Avonne on “Quieting The Inner Critic.”
  • Lissa Coffey on “Manage Weight Mindfully with the Ancient Wisdom of Ayurveda.”
  • Cheri Swanson on “Nutrition for a Clean Body & Altering Genetics Through Food.”

“Each year, most of us make unrealistic New Year’s resolutions that start out with a bang, but too often fall by the wayside. Then, we beat ourselves up for not sticking to our plan,” said Lam. “Our goal with this Mindful Her event is to help women adopt healthier practices one step at a time for a slow evolution to being healthy in mind, body and spirit.”

Attendees at this Mindful Her event can expect healthy meals and snacks, including breakfast of Acai Bowls by Sambazon, lunch by Active Culture, a sushi dinner by Aki, and a healthy happy hour provided by 35 Maple Street Spirits.

There will also be a vendor area where attendees can purchase yoga clothing and supplies, essential oils, natural skin care products, jewelry and more.

“This event is for the everyday woman that likes to drink wine and likes to go out, and works, and tries to stay healthy and wants to know more about mindfulness,” explained Lam. “Our goal is to always keep our ticket price very cost effective. We serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, and everyone leaves with a gift bag.”

“We always end with a healthy happy hour because life is fun,” added Forster.

Global G.L.O.W. (globalgirlsglow.org), an Orange County based non-profit that works locally and globally to help girls become leaders in their communities, will receive a portion of event proceeds.

Mindful Her has been made possible by corporate partners such as Commerce West Bank, Hudson Jeans, Sambazon, Active Culture, 35 Maple Street, Mojo PR Group, The Whole Purpose, and San Clemente Website Design.

The event is limited to 250 women. Tickets are $159 and include all meals and seminars.

The next Mindful Her event is “The Mindful Couple” on Feb. 14 at Rancho Las Lomas, and is limited to 100 couples.
