Duffy was victorious in the Toshiba Classic last weekend, but we’re not talking about Marshall “Duffy” Duffield, inventor of the Duffy electric boat and one of our city council members.

It was Duffy Waldorf who won his first Champions Tour title at the Newport Beach Country Club, birdieing the final hole for a 5-under 66 and a two-stroke victory.

60, the 53-year-old golfer had 10 birdies, five bogeys and three pars in the final round.

Waldorf finished with a tournament-record 20-under 193 total. He earned $270,000 for his victory, making him 19th on the money

list with $822,896, which qualifies him for the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship this month in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The four-time PGA Tour winner was making his 73rd start on the Champions Tour. The victory was his first in 296 events since the PGA Tour’s 2000 event at Walt Disney World Resort.

Joe Durant finished second in the Toshiba Classic. Kevin Sutherland was third at 17 under after a 65. Paul Goydos (66) followed at 15 under, and 2010 and 2014 winner Fred Couples (69) of Newport Beach was another stroke back along with Kenny Perry (68).
