The Bard is back in Newport Beach.

The Newport Beach City Arts Commission has announced that Shakespeare by the Sea will present a special performance of “The Tempest” on August 18 at the Newport Beach Civic Center Green.

According to Tim Hetherton, the Library Services and Cultural Arts director, “It was very disappointing that our weekend of Shakespeare was rained out a couple weeks ago, so we are extremely pleased that Shakespeare by the Sea is able to add this special performance to their busy summer schedule.”

The outdoor staging of “The Tempest ” will begin at 7 p.m. on the Civic Green at the Newport Beach Civic Center.

“We encourage the community to bring picnic dinners, blankets and low-slung beach chair to enjoy the event in this new location,” added Hetherton.

This special event is free and open to the public, supported by the City of Newport Beach and the City Arts Commission. Free parking is available in the Civic Center Parking structure and library parking lot.
