Get ready for the biggest beach party to be held in Newport Beach this year: Newport Beach Party: A Celebration of Community, held at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort June 26 – 28.
The three day event is designed to raise money for a variety of charities, including the Newport Beach Host Town Committee for the Special Olympics Los Angeles 2015, while championing community, family and fun.
The Newport Beach Party launches on Friday night at 6 p.m. with a tasting event featuring wines from the Newport Beach Invitational Wine Competition. Participants will sample wines nominated by local and national wine professionals while tasting food from a variety of local restaurants.
Entertainment will be provided by award winning trumpet player and jazz singer Ilya Serov, recently named the “Best New Artist of the Year” at the Hollywood International Entertainment Awards. He’s played locally before, and is known for his own arrangements of jazz standards as well as original compositions.
Tickets are $95 and includes unlimited pours of over 100 wines.
Saturday brings the Kansas City Barbeques Society’s sanctioned Newport Beach BBQ Competition, the Orange
County Beer Competition and Tasting, and OC Band Competition presented by KX93.5.
The BBQ competition brings around 30 professional BBQ teams from across the region to compete for $7,500 in cash prizes. Many of the BBQ teams will be selling samples (prices vary from team to team).
“The beer competition is with Orange County breweries, it’s a sanctioned competition,” said Newport Beach Party organizer Steve Bender, President Elect of the Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary and Co-Chair, Newport Beach Host Town Committee for Special Olympic World Games.
The public can taste each entry and cast a vote for their favorite brew. Tickets to the beer tasting are $45 and include unlimited tastes from noon to 4 p.m.
The OC Band Competition features around 20 bands performing every 30 minutes on two different stages.
Sunday features food trucks and local restaurants, Special Olympics Torch Run and Lighting Ceremony, Host Town Awards, and a UCLA versus USC Fundraising Challenge for Special Olympics with legendary coaches Terry Donahue and John Robinson, plus more craft beer and wine tasting, and live music.
“There will also be a Rotary Club village where all the Rotary clubs in our area can show what they do,” explained Bender. “And we’ll have a Mexico village because we’ll be hosting 136 athletes from Mexico (for the Special Olympics). We will do a tribute to Mexico with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, bands and dancers.”
Other activities includes SUP rentals and demos, electric bike rides, a bike rodeo, artists, tech village, and a variety of kids activities including bounce houses, obstacle course, train rides, arts and crafts, face painting, balloon art, and kid friendly food.
And of course, there’s always the Newport Dunes beach and water.
Cost to enter the Beach Party is $20 per person or $45 for the entire family (up to 6 people). There are additional costs for wine tastings, beer tastings, food, etc.
