Brief: Marina Park Project Update

As part of the Marina Park project, West Bay Avenue (between 18th and 19th Streets) and the 19th Street Restrooms are now closed.

Temporary fencing is up, and both the seawall along West Bay Avenue and restroom demolition will begin on Sept. 8 and last approximately 1 week. On-street parking within this work zone will be temporarily suspended.

The new restroom facility is expected to reopen before the Memorial Day 2015 holiday.  Temporary facilities will be provided within the vicinity in the interim.

Work on the seawall is expected to last approximately two months. During this time, beach users can access the Bay beach off of 19th Street. The 18th Street access and on street parking will be restored once the seawall construction is complete.

Republican Election Headquarters for Newport Beach Now Open

Newport Harbor Republican Women has been dark for the three summer months, and is gearing up for the fall.

They open and operate the campaign headquarters for Newport Beach for each general election, and have the grand opening coming up on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 4940 Campus Dr., Suite B, between Von Karman and Bardeen.

Republican candidates for the November 2014 election will be at the opening,including gubernatorial candidate Neel Kashkari.

Hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and soft drinks will be served.

The headquarters is open now through November 4, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours beginning October 1.

The public is invited to stop by for candidate information and yard signs, and to volunteer for voter registration, precinct walking, phone calling, etc.

Tim Brown Gets Endorsements

Tim Brown, candidate for Newport Beach City Council District Four, has been endorsed by three-dozen former Newport Beach Mayors, City Council men and women and City Commissioners, according to a press release issued by Brown’s campaign.

In addition to the long list of City officials endorsing Brown, Former Assemblywoman and California State Senator Marian Bergeson has also endorsed him.

The list of former Newport Beach Mayors includes Keith Curry, Jan Debay, Thomas, Edwards, Nancy Gardner, Evelyn Hart, Mike Henn, Rush Hill, Dennis O’Neil, Steven Rosansky, Don Webb and former Mayor and current Mayor pro tem Edward Selich.

The list also includes current City Council member Tony Petros, current and retired members of the Planning Commission, Harbor Commission, Arts Commission and the Newport Beach Library Board of Trustees.

Endorsements for Brown have also come from the hospitality industry in Newport Beach including Linda Beinfohr with Hornblower Cruises and Events; Andy Theodorou, General Manager of the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina; Debbie Snavely, General Manager of Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa; and Karl Krueger, General Manager of the Fairmont Newport Beach.

Brown is running for the District Four Newport Beach City Council seat that will be open as Leslie Daigle terms out at the end of this year.

Brown currently serves on the Newport Beach Planning Commission, and has also served on the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission, and on the Aviation Committee. He is a former Chairman of the Board of Directors for Leadership Tomorrow and the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Lobsterfest Foundation and Vocational Service Chair for the Newport Sunrise Rotary Club.

OC Transportation Authority CEO Wakes Up With Newport

Orange County Transportation Authority CEO Darrell Johnson gave an early morning speech to Newport Beach residents this week.

The Wake Up! Newport meeting, hosted by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, was held Thursday in the friends room at NB Public Library.

Johnson spoke about measure M investments, an update on I-405, the Pacific Coast Highway Corridor Study, Bicycle Safety Campaign and OC Bike Loop.

The meeting also included updates from county, state and federal official representatives.

The chamber hosts Wake Up! Newport meetings on the first Thursday of every month at 7:15 a.m.. They are free and open to the public.
