Woman Killed in Newport Coast Car Crash ID’d

An elderly woman died Thursday after the car she was driving hit with a tree on San Joaquin Hills Road, according to authorities.

Thelma Robinson, 75, of Newport Coast died at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian around 10 a.m. on Thursday following the crash, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

Newport Beach Police Department communications center was notified of a traffic collision at approximately 10:05 a.m., Sgt. Joe Cartwright wrote in a statement.

The accident occurred between Spy Glass Hill Road and Newport Coast Drive.

A single vehicle collided with a tree in the center median, Cartwright explained.

Police sent out an alert Thursday morning, warning residents to avoid the area due to a traffic accident. It was sent out around 10:35 a.m.

Robinson was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.

She was transported to Hoag, where she was declared dead, authorities reported.

It is an ongoing police investigation.
