The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana welcomed more than 150 donors, supporters and notable community members for its inaugural Leadership Breakfast, held on June 5 at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa.
Providing a positive, healthy learning environment for children in one of the most disadvantaged communities in the U.S., the BGCSA honored 17-year-old Club member Daisy Monjaras as its 2014 Youth of the Year, an award given to an exceptional student with a positive outlook, outstanding moral compass and strong commitment to the Club. She received a $10,000 scholarship.
“Words cannot express how grateful I am for the many opportunities the club has provided to me. It is opportunities like these that inspire me to pursue my college and career choices,” said Monjaras. “I look forward to coming back to the Club and seeing these opportunities continue to help other students such myself and hope that I myself can continue.”
Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana CEO Robert Santana highlighted Club milestones made over the last year, reflected on the Club’s future direction, and updated guests on its Club expansion.
The Club expects to increase its capacity to serve 60 percent more teens each year, serve 20 percent more youth and 50 percent more families with community outreach services starting September 2014.
BGCSA will celebrate its 60 years of success in September 2014, having served over 70,000 Santa Ana youth, ages 6-18, since 1954.
