City Council candidate Roy Englebrecht announced this week that he would not display campaign signs anywhere in Newport Beach during the fall election.

Englebrecht complained that the signs spoil the beauty of the city and create clutter, he said in the press release on Wednesday.

“I know it is only the June primary election but already candidate’s signs are all over town,” Englebrecht noted in the statement. “So if this is what it looks like now, think how ugly it will look in October.”

Newport Beach is one of the most beautiful and well kept cities in the country, Englebrecht commented. It is disrespectful to clutter it with hundreds of campaign signs, he argued.

In the statement, he encouraged other candidates to take a pledge against campaign signs and be more creative on getting their names out to the public.

Residents placing signs on their front lawn or elsewhere on their private property is fine, he emphasized, but all over town along city streets, medians and on utility poles is “not right.”

Englebrecht is the owner and CEO of Roy Englebrecht Promotions/Fight Club OC and a Parks, Beaches & Recreation commissioner.

Englebrecht running for the District 4 council seat currently held by Leslie Daigle, who terms out this year. Planning commissioner and Chamber of Commerce commodore Tim Brown is also vying for the District 4 seat.
