The Sonenshine family of Newport Coast will be honored with the 2014 Dove Award at Human Options’ annual “Serious Fun” fundraiser on May 9 at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach.
The theme this year will be “A Salute to Old Hollywood.”
All event proceeds benefit the Irvine-based nonprofit working to stop the cycle of domestic violence in Orange County.
The Sonenshine family has been instrumental in assisting Human Options since the organization began 33 years ago when Justice Sheila Prell Sonenshine (now retired) counseled clients on the legal process.
The family’s involvement extended to Ygal and Sheila’s son Danny and wife Kerri who have both served on the board of directors and in a variety of other leadership positions for the past 13 years.
Their young daughters Maggie (age 12) and Sarah (age 8) conduct their own fundraisers for Human Options, including an annual Halloween costume drive, lemonade stands, birthday gift donations, and art projects.
Leading this year’s fundraising efforts are event chairs Karla Kraft, Anderee Berengian and Tamie Rus. Honorary event chairs are Julia Argyros and daughter Stephanie Argyros.
The light hearted “Serious Fun” fundraiser includes a red carpet welcome, an expansive poolside silent auction and cocktail hour, a gourmet dinner, live auction, awards program, and live music and dancing to N8+ Jazz Band.
Individual tickets to the event are $400. Sponsor opportunities are available.
The mission of Human Options is to provide safe haven and life changing programs to help abused women, their children and families rebuild their lives, while working with the community to break the cycle of domestic violence.
Now in its 33rd year, Human Options provides a full continuum of services to stop the violence – from prevention and early intervention programs to emergency shelter and long-term transitional housing.
