Prive 2Inspired by the glam red carpet looks of the Golden Globe Awards that were held last weekend, I prepared for viewing the Golden Globes by attending the Golden Globes Beauty Bar at PRIVÉ Salon in Los Angeles.

Attendees had their hair blown out and styled, make-up done and nails and toes freshly painted. Local models served refreshments and snacks including Skinnygirl cocktails, champagne and electrolyte enhanced water.

I had my hair washed and blown out while sipping on champagne and talking about the latest fashions and upcoming Golden Globes. Afterward I felt ready to attend any party with my hair cascading down my back in soft waves, something I don’t get to enjoy often with my unruly hair.

The enjoyment of having someone else do my hair and the great result got me thinking about how I could recreate that Prive 3feeling on a budget. I looked around Newport Beach and came across Drybar at Fashion Island, and also noticed a newly opened Blushington. The two stores are across from each other, making it easy to move from one appointment to the next.

Drybar created its concept around giving women a way to feel and look beautiful without the traditional salon prices. For $40 you can have your hair blown out in whatever style you want.

Their signature styles include Straight Up, Manhattan, the Cosmo, the Mai Tai, the Cosmo-Tai, Southern Comfort, and Hot Toddy. You can view these styles, which range from sleek and straight to big bold curls, on their website before you go, or you can come up with your own style. It doesn’t matter if your hair is thick, long, curly or straight; the price stays the same. I appreciate this since I constantly run into the upcharges for having long, thick, wavy hair.

While you get your hair blown out you can watch a movie on their flat screen TV while enjoying champagne, tea or water.

There is something about getting your hair done at a salon that leaves it silky, shiny and with bounce—things you can’t achieve at home.

Once your hair is done, stroll over to Blushington and get your makeup done to complete the new look.

cat 2They feature six different styles online to help you decide what look you would like to go for. Whether it’s “Pure & Simple” or “Cutting Edge,” they will cater to your preference.

If you are like me and have skin that is sometimes hard to match with the right foundation but still want to have your makeup done, I would suggest their “Eyes Only” option for $30, which will still give you a new fresh look without having to worry about the foundation matching.

If you are interested in having a full make-up application the pricing starts at $40, with add-ons such as faux lash application, airbrush foundation and waxing at an additional charge.

I suggest getting your hair and makeup done for any special occasion. It takes the stress out of getting ready and having that one hair that won’t curl the right way, or the lipstick that you love suddenly looking different and unflattering.  After leaving Drybar and Blushington, I felt refreshed, stress free and beautiful; the perfect start to any day or evening.
