PCISA High School Team Racing Qualifiers were held this past weekend at Lido Isle Yacht Club, hosted by Corona del Mar High School. Nine teams from around the district competed to qualify for the ISSA Team Race Nationals that will be in Norfolk, Virginia May 20–22.
In the first round robin, Newport Harbor High School finished with a 5–3 record, with losses because of small mistakes, but some important wins against the top teams. They made it out of the second round undefeated, beating favorites Point Loma High School and Corona del Mar.
Then, in the final round, Newport Harbor just barely edged out CDM for second place with 14 wins. Point Loma High School took first, and along with them, Newport Harbor and CDM all qualify for Nationals.
It was a weekend of intense competition and challenging breezes where Southern California sailors reigned supreme again.
