A quick look at the things that made news this week in Newport Beach

• The Bank of America at 3300 East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar was robbed Thursday morning, according to police. The 25 to 30-year-old white, male suspect allegedly passed a note to a teller around 9:30 a.m., demanding the money drawer be emptied. He left the bank through the back with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police described the suspect as about 6 feet tall, wearing a gray sweatshirt with a black, white and gray “DC” emblem on the front, dark pants and black sunglasses.

• The California Public Utilities Commission approved a five percent residential rate increase for Southern California Edison customers on Thursday, though the company had requested a 16.6 increase. Newport Beach customers should expect about a $7 increase in their monthly bill, starting in January. The increase will generate more than $840 million in revenue for the utility company over a three year period.

• Newport Beach police arrested Christopher Bryan McKenzie, 48, of Costa Mesa, for allegedly having inappropriate conduct, distributing obscene material and/or sexually molesting four boys between 2009 and 2011 in Newport Beach. McKenzie was a Sunday school teacher at Rock Harbor Church in Costa Mesa.

• Punk band Greenday front man, Billie Joe Armstrong, put his home on the Balboa Peninsula up for sale last week for $1.895. Armstrong and his wife, Adrienne, bought the house in 2006 for about $1.7 million, and completely remodeled it in 2007.

• Christmas presents, decorations and other items were stolen from cars and yards around Newport Beach last week, the Patch reported. Some of the items stolen include, a 5-foot-tall Elmo Christmas lawn figure and Disney and Hello Kitty gifts.
