No, not that World Series – baseball is just finishing up the first round of the playoffs. But last weekend in San Francisco, sailing teams and fans gathered for the America’s Cup World Series regatta, featuring the America’s Cup teams racing 42-foot catamarans.

In this World Series, Oracle Team USA 4, skippered by Jimmy Spithill, came from dead last at the first mark to win the final race and the Series on Sunday. Beat that, MLB!

Newport Beach Indy photographer Jim Collins was among the locals who made the trip north to watch the action, and he filed this photo report.

The teams approach the first mark in one of the America’s Cup World Series races last weekend in San Francisco Bay.
The Oracle 4 boat suffered a setback when it capsized during one race. The team was able to right it and finish.
In the Oracle compound, a spare wing waits, just in case.
Oracle 5 flies near the first mark.
